You have the shipment specs, the weight, the size of the package as 
packaged, and the origin and destn zip codes. and the value, etc.

Go to the FedEx web page and input the shipping data and get the quoatationa 
dn print out the pages and the detail showing breakdow of the charges and 
see what you come up with.  If it is oversized package they will have to 
charge to on basis of more weight for all that space occupied by your 
shipment.    There are various formulas for that.

You can figure out what it would be via FedEx.  They are generally a bit 
less that UPS.  Specify their "FedEx Ground" service.  This is  a good 
service and their lowest cost.

The endura bumper I shipped took a pounding, you could see it on the
wrapping, they are also nearly impervious to damage so it was no big
deal. Anything shipped via greyhound needs the most durable packaging
you can assemble in my opinion. They state themselves that your stuff
might take some thumps.

How do I respond to a message? Or should I say how do I respond to a
message to keep it in the thread? I made the guy who wants the grille
off of the Mattie an offer and he took it. He wants the grille so he is
willing to pay for the parcel post to send it. I offered to send his
other items and I would pay for the shipping costs on those items. I
have someone else who wants the rear bumper and the fenders and I have
decided to ship them Greyhound. I just hope that they dont get beat up
more then what they all ready are (the fenders). I have heard of some
horror stories about sending and shipping Greyhound and I have seen
first hand how they treat stuff, having to take the bus more then once
when the big truck I was operating broke down. SO MUCH FUN on a bus!
Anyone ever shipped fenders before? 
Should I just box them or should I wrap them in bubble wrap then wrap
them in card board? Again I thank all who may respond in advance.

I just recieved a box from a company in VT; a 70 lb. rowing machine, so you 
can imagine how big. I was charged $55 US dollars to ship from Vermont to my 
home in Canada (not including brokerage fee/taxes). Very reasonable, in fact 
I was quite surprised. The cost of the machine plus shipping plus taxes and 
exchange still came out to $300 less than buying it in Canada...if shipping 
costs were as high as you are finding, it would have been a deal killer. Try 
Fedex, maybe you'll be surprised.

Second gen Jav/AMX got several safety passes because its fate had been pre-ordained --- it had no life after MY '74 --- completely unlike the [far older] 10 and 80 (sedan and wagon) bodies.  Two of the facts that well read [both senses] AMC historians have not made clear are that 1) the '71 redesign (doors and some glass saved) took a -lot- more money than it returned, and 2) the '74 Ambassador sedan and wagon were -not- booked for burial just one year after donning new clothes.  Check out what the Matador and Ambassador rhinoplasties did -not- share.  Check out that the new dash was actually designed for the Ambassador (which explains why it had little to "console" [Matador coupe] sports sorts) because the Matador was supposed to get a unique interior (which was supposed to be more curvy [like Pacer] than straight [like Cadillac].

Had the first all-new ('72) Matador coupe (which was smaller [112" WB] and sportier [more "European"] than both the '67 Delta design and the '74-up NASCAR-draft machine) been built and the Pacer-stretch midsize four-door sedan and five-door wagon followed, the old 122" Ambassador would have been facelifted yet again, and, given Cadillac content for Caprice-like MSRP, sold until 1979 or 1980; when AMC planned to build its own FWD "big and bigger" bodies --- very much in recent GM idiom.

All AMC experts should know cold what GM made from its W platform and what C, G, K, and H bodies have in common --- even if it makes their eyes hurt.  AMC, too, could have done more than simply stretch hoods ahead of cowls, and it would have, had it had enough time and money.  That's why Pacer was more than just the latest Nash/Rambler/AMC joke.

I have to sit in on a dress rehearsal at 3:30 and be ready at 5:30 to ride to the country club for dinner, so must split and run.  It's sad that America now is a laughingstock (check Roper's National Geographic literacy poll) and that America doesn't build many "I can't wait for a ride!" new cars.  Outside a few exceptions like Corvette etc., we don't build one single "Wow!" wagon.  The guy I'm riding with just got a new black wagon.  AMC?  Buick?  Chrysler?  Ford?

I was replacing my carb the other day and I broke the carb where the 
heater tube attaches for the choke.  The threaded mounting stud of the 
carb broke off inside the heater tube threads.

What can I do to get a heater tube mounted to my new carb?  Where does 
one find the right choke heater tube?

Keep in mind that companies get discounted rates on shipping if they ship on a 
regular basis.  Your rate as an individual will always be higher.

It's been a particularly nice week in Buffalo so far, so I thought this 
would be a good time to get my Matador back on the road. One problem, 
though -- it's been sitting all winter, and the key won't turn all the 
way in the ignition. I can turn it backwards to ACC, and forwards to the 
same thing, but it won't turn far enough to start the car.

I know that it recognizes the key, because the car produces the "key is 
in the ignition" buzz. Also, the transmission shifts freely. But I just 
can't move the key that last little turn.

Anyone have any ideas?

 Before my 'puter crashed a few weeks ago (
permanently, I have a new Dell now ), I was Googling
and Asking ( Ask.com ) specifically on Image search
alone, for Matador coupes, and ran across a fair
number with both the front AND rear bumpers shaved
off, and I have to say, I DO like the look! I must
have found 5-6 coupes with the bare look, and it sure
makes the car look swoopy. Those angular, rectangular
bumpers don't fit in with the curved lines, once
removed the body lines just jump out and say Wow, to
me at least. I will probably do something similar to
my Coupe, maybe do a VW nerf bar bumper thing to it
eventually.   
  So, if any of you decide to go Search I think you'll
find them pleasing to gaze upon.  I know I do, and I
didn't like Coupes much until recently. Swoop coupe,
anyone?

Well.......give it a little time and the problem becomes more obvious. 
Looks like my initial problem with the whining was an indicator for an 
upcoming problem with the rack.  The original fluid level was fine the first 
day and was refilled to the right level after changing the fluid and 
everything worked OK.   But now the rack is leaking out of the right 
bellows.  Apparently the rack failed on the second day (though now no 
whining noise as long as the fluid level is right).  Seems the bellows 
initially contained all the leaking fluid and the foaming was a secondary 
effect from the lowered fluid level and air entering the rack.

    Looks like I need a new rack...Thanks to all who responded.

A lot of factors determine the cost of an item;
A drip rail trim, weighing next to nothing, is bulky.
Especially when you pack it good so as to not bend it.
Hence, it is spendy.
A cylinder head is heavy but compact, spendy there
too.
Ship a pair of visors; light and fairly compact so it
will be next to nothing.
Are you shipping air or ground? Air mail for the heavy
cylinder head will kill you.
And how many transfers will the item make. If it goes
from Seatlle straight to LA, cheap. But if it has to
make a bunch of transfers, the cost goes up every time
it is transfered.
Shipping is a lose-lose deal. The buyer pays for it
and the seller sees none of it.....Russ
