If you'll be at the computer with a stop watch,
you can time how long it takes for your connection
to get a bid in.

When I'm home & have an item on eBay I want -
I wait until the last day to bid.  

No sense in baiting the price in a pissing contest
over the course of a week.

I punch in the the maximum amount I'm willing to
spend for the item - the MAX -  so, no whine-ing
if  I get out-bid by bigger bucks.

There are programs available to allow you to electronically bid at
the
last second.  Getting outbid at the last second is a fact of life
with
ebay. The best advice I have ever heard was to bid what you are
willing to
pay. If you underbid, then you are just giving it away.  Look at the
completed prices.  Also, bidding at the last second can be risky,
because
you have no idea what the other guys high bid price is.  Bid what you
are
willing to pay and walk away.  Otherwise you'll just drive yourself
nuts.
