this makes me think about de-electronifying a grand cherokee 42re
again.  this would give you an a500 with an amc bolt pattern, and
with the o/d 4th you could run a 3.73 axle for easy towing [and
occasionally startling the ricers] and still have highway manners
better than stock.  and i think an a500, like the tf998/999 it's based
on, would handle a 360 when built judiciously.

it was thrashed out on the list some time ago, but i don't recall
anyone stepping up and saying 'i did it and here's how', or 'i'm a
tranny rebuilder with 40 years on torqueflites and it can't be done'.

alternatively you could go with a standalone tcm for the 42re but i
don't know if anyone makes one for mopar slushboxes.

iirc you could get some -very- stiff optional rear springs for these
cars - almost double the stock rate - suggesting massive towing
capacity when they were properly equipped.
