1. Six cylinder flywheels/flex plates are NEUTRAL BALANCE -- sixes are internally balanced, so the flywheel is balanced alone. 2. V-8 flywheels/flex plates are balanced TO THE ENGINE. You need a 304 flywheel or flexplate, period. If you want to get the crankshaft assembly balanced, you can take the 304 crank, balancer, and flywheel to a machine shop and have them balance the assembly. Ask about the price, then check prices for a flywheel. American Performance lists new flywheels (factory balance) at $278 + shipping. I'd think you can get a balance job for that and be ahead for doing so (factory is balance is close, but not exact -- doesn't really matter unless turning high rpm though). Used flywheels should be available though -- someone here may have one. Should be no more than $150-$175 including shipping, and maybe a lot less. 3. The bolt pattern to the transmission is the same on all 72+ AMC engines EXCEPT four cylinders. Audi uses a unique pattern, GM the SBC, and the AMC four uses the small GM pattern. There is one thing to look out for though. Six cylinder bells are 6.5" deep, and eight cylinder around 8.0" deep. I think the T-5 needs the six cylinder bell. Check by measuring the input shaft, minus the point that goes into the pilot bushing. There should be no problems using a six bell on a V-8 -- AMC did it with the 304/SR-4 in late 70s small cars (I believe Concord). Should only affect clutch rod length.
