Any GM power steering box will work. I believe the Vega box will bolt right on, not so sure if the Monza/Sunbird/skylark (Skyhawk?) uses the same. Otherwise the steering boxes use a different bolt pattern than the manual box. That said, I used one without an adapter on my 63 Classic for 2-3 years with no trouble. I aligned the lowest forward bolt hole with the existing steering box hole, connected the shaft, then marked the other holes so I could drill through the front rail. One of the bolt holes came out just above the rail. For this one I cut a piece of 1/2" conduit to use as a spacer right on top of the rail, with a washer between the spacer and steering box. You may have to use a different existing hole if you go that route since the 67 steering shaft isn't adjustable in length. I had to change out the steering column so installed a GM tilt column. That's a whole 'nother can o' worms, but using a modern intermediate shaft made connecting the box and column easier. I'd pull the manual box and prop the power one in place once it's bolted to the shaft and see where it sits. If you can use at least one exiting hole and the pitman arm is close to the same position the manual arm was in, drill the remaining holes. Of course if this is for restoration you'll need the 65-71 adapter. Any AMC car with power steering should have the adapter. I was wondering if anyone could help me by letting me know what I'd have to do to convert to a power steering setup? I know I'll have to get a PS pump, a steering box setup for power steering, hoses and belts, but what else will I need? Also, what makes and models of other AMC's can I take the box off to use? > > Thanks for any responses, > Ken > > ============================================================= > Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
