That would help people decide. Frame rust in rear: if it's all behind the axle, that shouldn't be a big problem. Sounds like it could be a decent driver. If it's a two door Classic it's worth saving -- only year for the two door in the 56-62 big car body. There are only three possibilities I can think of, from most likely to least: 1. The groves in the gear designed to pass oil to the chain are blocked. 2. The front cam bearing isn't the correct one or it's installed wrong and not enough oil is passing through. 3. Is the cam walking and causing a miss alignment in the chain and gears? Look at the back of the water pump. Does it appear like the gear or chain has been rubbing it? If so, the cam is shifting forward.=20 Frank Swygert P.S. - please respond to Bruce directly -- he's not a list member (yet?).=20 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: basjls@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 To: eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 Sent: Monday, February 20, 2006 11:00 AM Subject: 69 Javelin Eddie, First, my sympathy and condolences on the passing of your dad. I'm sure that's been difficult for you and your family I was hoping you had a couple minutes tolend some AMC advice. 1. Could you tell me who a good contact is to discuss problems with an AMCV-8? My 343 chewed up a cam gear 2x's in the last year. Once was because my the top=20 gear of my "brand new" edelbrock timing chain wasn''t machined right and the oil wasn't passing from the front lobe of the cam out to the cam and distributor gear. It self destructed a second time this fall and we have no idea why as the new timing chain and gear set was machined properly, I got new cam and distributor gears from Kenneday American, and we made sure everything meshed up good. I've read alot on the AMC forum, talked to Jeff Kennedy (he is stumped) and even have BJ's book , but, is there anyone really good on these things that I or my engine guy can talk to to sort this out? I saw the Halverson name and Herman Lewis on your vendor list, but wasn't sure if they would want to be bother by such a thing. I know you are busy with your kids and all so I really appreciate your time. I know what it's like, we have a 20 month old little girl and she just flat wears=20 us out!! These are all one owner cars. One is an '82 Concord 4-door, 258, 5-speed. The car is excellent. Her husband would only buy AMC cars and that is all they ever owned. He was an electrical engineer and, in her words, "was always tinkering on the cars." The Concord is white/blue, well equipped, and has 57K miles. It currently is not running, but I think it is a minor problem. There was a box of new parts in the back seat that contained ignition parts, filters, etc. She said that he had bought the parts to "get it in good shape" but passed away before he got to finish. She is asking $1000. The other car is a '63 station wagon and you have to pardon me becasue I know little about the early cars. It is also a 6-cylinder manual transmission car. Seems he would only buy manual transmission cars because "he felt he could repair them if he had to". Trust me; these are jewels. This is truly a "little old lady" find. Contact me if you are interested. I told her I would try to help her sell the cars becasue she has no use for them and she needs the money. Plus, she knows that the cars will deteriorate if they just sit and she wants them to be sold to someone who will appreciate them. The cars are in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Email me or call me at (501) 472-6640 and I can get you in touch with her. Thank you AMC_list. The first headlight door had baked in my dehydrator for 24 hours after being painted with flat black yesterday so I masked it off and scuffed it down and painted the silver. Picture this, it took 5 hours to scuff and mask and paint 1 headlight door!!! What a PIA to mask it up just to paint the silver. The silver wheel color I chose from Eastwood looks almost factory. It is now back in the dehydrator drying till tomorrow. I have to knock the edge off the silver where it meets the flat black with 1000# sandpaper and clean up 3 very small spots of over spray and it will be ready for the semi-gloss clear coat. I should have both of them done by sunday. Next week it will be the grills turn to have the silver done. I am not looking forward to doing that but job. It may take a week or two plus. Anyhow the car goes to get the windows tinted a light smoke tomorrow. That should look nice with the orange body color.
