Adding extra 3/8 head bolts/studs on a 401 block INFO

The head extra head bolts are 3/8 coarse thread. The
torque setting on a stock head is going to be about
45-50 with ARP moly lube. As far as on an aluminum
head, I would check with the mfg as they may want
something slightly different. Differences in the
quality of aluminum is going to change the expansion
and contraction of the head so they may want more or
less than another mfg just like with the regular head
bolts. As with any aftermarket part, I would always
check with them before using stock or standard specs.

One reason for the bushing in the head to prevent any
antifreeze seepage and reduce the chance of hair line
cracks when torquing the bolts. As for the head
gaskets, I have not seen any that already have the
extra head bolt holes in them. This is easy to do
with a hole punch so once you have the holes drilled,
mark the gasket and punch out the hole.
