Thanks to Frank for posting my message. My e-mail program was changing the address and I didn't know it. For those who asked, my Gremlin was a 1971 with the original 2.73 gears in an AMC 15 axle. The 3.55 gears wouldn't fit my carrier but higher (3.31) gears would. I guess the breaking point is about 3.54. Nice to know but too late for me. I'm glad I have the 3.55 and the positraction anyway. If/when I change engines and transmissions I'll stick with the automatic, wouldn't mind having a 5 speed stick but getting the pedals, brackets, etc. would be a pain. It was good to know that NAPA has the bearings that fit old AMC cars. My next problem may be getting enough oil to the head of my 258. Before the rebuild I had large amounts of oil to the head, ever since then it's hardly enough, the passages in the head are clean, it's the supply coming out of the block, maybe the cam bearing didn't get installed right or something. What's the best fix? An external oil line or installing a 4.0 head with pushrod oiling? Always something but I enjoy driving my Gremlin. I think it's the only one in town and I get lots of good comments. Clarence Milstead
