Re: Chrome Bumper Painting

Thanks for all the tips on painting my bumpers. The reason I was going
to paint them was there are no local chrome plating shops in the area
around N.Y. City. The next reason was the price of shipping to a place
over 1000 miles away and not knowing what the end product would look
like. You all must know what a PIA I am. I don't mind spending the money
but I want a quality job. I like to be involved with what is being done
to my cars and do my own quality control when work is farmed out.
Tomorrow at my friends shop we are going to pull the right corner of the
rear bumper back into shape. When I got the car it had been pushed in
and dented the bottom of the quarter a little. Since this was a Florida
car most of it's life the fillers between the bumpers are toast. I had
the good fortune of buying a pick up bed full of Hornet parts and
included was a set nice set of the fillers and they were even painted
the same orange as my car. A bit of polishing and they should match
perfectly. I always liked the look of the 77 Hornet AMX with it's
painted bumpers but hated the black rubber strip on them. I also dislike
the big rubber bumper guards on the 74's. With the painted and shaved
bumpers and the addition of the 77 AMX flairs and rear window louver I
think I will have a tasteful one of a kind unique car. I also disliked
that ugly targa bar on the Hornet and Concord's. This car will look like
what I think a Hornet AMX should have looked like. Well it is raining
here and snowing to the north of me so I am house bound. Time to get
back to work on the second door sill.
