I don't have a speedo cable for you, but I solved (or at least reduced)
heat damage to them by covering the section of cable near the exhaust
with a piece of slit heater hose, then wrapping in aluminum foil, folded
over 4 - 8 times. The alum. foil is a great insulator, and the heater
hose leaves an air space. I had to clamp mine out of trouble with a
length of steel wire, to the x-member.
