Tom, My bumpers are holding up fine. A few small chips, nothing major. I used Black Beauty medium grit blasting slag and my pressure sand blaster to sand blast the chrome. Peeled back the peeling chrome, used a grinder with 36 grit to farther feather it out till I was sure any loose chrome was gone. Then I primed it with Low cost Montana Brand uerthane primer, follewed by some extensive bolck sanding and a couple more coats of the primer to fill pits and such. Then I topcoated with Dupont Acrylic enamel with gloss hardener. My bumbers were straight, both had peeling chrome in the license plate area. The front I had several of, but the only one that was straight had bumper gaurds and was rusted out under them on the two lower mounting points. I went so far as to cut this area out and mig weld in a new piec of metal formed to shap and then drill new holes and file them square. Even with all that work is was easier then trying to straighten the tweaked bumpers I have. Seems every American you see is popped right dead center and twisted up! Try and straighten one and get it right! It's a bear with out the proper jigs and tools. It'll give you a new respect for the chrome shops! The only thing I would do differnet would be to smooth them of Bumper bolts if I was to do it again. -- Mark Price markprice242ATadelphia.net Morgantown, WV >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: paint From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> To: amc-list <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Message-Id: <1138261541.5683.27.camel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 25 Jan 2006 23:45:44 -0800 I've decided to go with a single color, Audi Aviator Grey, and do the grille, headlamp doors and wheels in white, with a white SC 360 stripe, if I can get one without "SC360" text cut into it. It's gonna be too hard to coordinate the two colors, if I get it wrong it will bug me til the end of the earth. Thanks Keleigh for the info!! Mark, didn't you do painted bumpers on your American? Did you strip the chrome first? Or did you media blast it for grip? Mine are desparately in need of chrome but are in otherwise good shape without dents. I remember being impressed with your photos; how has it been holding up?
