Re: Sunday

As long as you realize this is a long-term project, I think you'll be satisfied. 3-4 years from now you'll be glad you saved it. I'd re-think the "rat rod" paint and such though. It will be worth more in the end as a semi-restored 990 convertible than a cheap street rod. If it was a four door or two door post sedan (don't think there was one in the Ambo line) I'd think differently. Even a half-decent Maaco paint job would be better, especially since it's a 990. But it's your car, and there's plenty time between now and getting it painted!

I'm now left with a car in need of a lot of work. The cowl and firewall are exactly as I remembered. Unfortuneatly the floors and trunk floor have gotten worse since I brought it home. The main structure such as rails and convertible specific items are solid as a rock. I'm going to stick to my plan and just hope I lived to see this on the road! First up is to pull the front sheet metal and the shortblock. Then get the engine compartment patched up and an Engine in the beast so it's mobile. Then do the floors and trunk. Followed by the trunk floor last.

I got a drivers door off of the flood car and I will probably end up cutting various areas out of it for patch panels. The convertibles passenger car is good. I can't help but think I would be doing myself a big favor by calling in and add and parting this thing out! But so far I'm resisting the temptation. One thing I noticed was that the convertible is in fact already a 990 model! I thought it was an 880. The dash says 990. No big deal, just a tidbit I noticed.
