It IS an Ambassador! I'd at least get some full wheel covers, something like the big smooth spun aluminum covers. Even the newer looking silver plastic full wheel covers might look better than dog dish caps on a big car. Dog dishes might look okay with trim rings. I don't know about the low gloss. That and black primer looks good on the 40s cars, but something like that? Shiny and chrome would look better to me. Some chrome wheels with plain center caps, like the ones I originally had on my wagon would be as plain as I'd go. But that's just my opinion! I'm sure there are as many who like your idea too.
