So it looks like all six cylinder drum brakes were two piece. Anyone taken a late V-8 drum/hub apart? I never paid attention to drums that much before -- the only new ones I ever bought came with a hub, and I don't even recall what make/model/year the car was! Matt is likely right -- all are two piece units. I'd just like some confirmation before I put that in print somewhere. Seems like it might be cheaper to make them in one piece, but then making them two piece means the drums could be used front or rear with possibly a little machine work -- center hole might be different sizes. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!) original message----------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 31 Dec 2005 23:04:02 -0500 To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx From: Matt Haas <mhaas@xxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Fwd: Pacer Suspension: Replacements are just the drum. The hub is removed by pressing out the wheel studs from the old drum assembly. Kennedy American's catalog (I know, hardly authoritative) lists two 9" six cylinder front drums:58-72 and 73-76 (I'm going to guess 76 was the last year for front drums). I know that the 10" front drums on my former Rebel were also two piece and I would assume that they were also two piece for all years they were offered. I've always been under the impression that one piece front drums were the exception on US cars. Matt
