The engines should be the same as they all use the same block. On the Eagles we have found that the oil pans are vastly different and that a Spirit Jeep and Eagle oil pan are all different. The Jeep and Spirit ones will not fit in an Eagle. To see the difference go to http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=4800.0 I took pics when swapping a Spirit 258 into my Eagle. The Eagle version of the 258 has a longer pick up arm on the sump and the dipstick is a different length to account for the deeper pan. Just things to watch for.
Good luck

He's thinking of doing a 258, and then installing it in our 83 Spirit. I'm thinking of picking up another 258 for the rebuild, then swapping them out when he's done.
Will any 258 fit in the Spirit? Are the mounting points different for a Jeep or an Eagle?
Thanks,
