Re: Carb info needed

If your dealing with the small 287 carb, good luck, My brother tried two on his Marlin with no luck at all, new kits thorough cleaning exact settings etc; results, same as you are experiencing. Then my dad went down to the garage he works at, Tewells in Uniontown, Pa former dealer, He rummaged through the stuff in the old parts bins and stumbled across a 66 327 two barrel carb that had been pulled from a lawyers wife's Ambassador because they had thought they ordered a four barrel car and it came in with a two barrel so the dealer swappped the intake and carb to the four barrel for them. My dad took that larger NOS two barrel carb and cleaned it up and put a kit in it. The 287 loves this carb! My brother says it starts like it has EFI and runs the same.
So you may want to go this route, You will need to find the matching 327 aircleaner if you want to maintain the look of the stock engine compartment.

Speaking of carbs.....I'm on my second rebuilt 2 barrel for my 63 classic
V8. Is there anything out there that I can use that will be a little more
reliable? Every time I rebuild one of these....or have it rebuilt....I end
up with the same issues...it starts dumping fuel like crazy into the bowl,
floods and dies. Then it just surges cause the we can't get the float, etc.
to work properly. I give up!

I hate to say it...but I'm open to considering a "non-original" part to
resolve this....something I've avoided 'till now.

Anyway....any suggestions?

T.
