401 block ID

Saw the block, looks like a good price. He was talking
about checking out the engine size, Eddie probably
told him how to do so and veteran AMCers already know
this. Do not just reach down and rely on feeling the
numbers unless you really know what you are doing, get
dirty a little.
I met a guy who had a 304 for sale at a swap meet. He
said it was in an AMC wagon and he didn't want to get
dirty (aww shucks) so he reached down a thought he
felt 4-0-1. He was reading it backwards and he
actually felt 3-0-4, he figured the 3 was a 1, just
crusty. He thought "$50 for a 401, wotta score"!!.....Russ
