Re: Shipping an engine

Look in the Yellow Pages under "Trucking - Motor Freight". You'll have to mount/strap the engine firmly to a pallet and build a frame around it (or plywood box) to prevent anything from crushing it, and to allow another pallet or box to be stacked on top. A couple cheap ratchet straps will suffice for strapping down, but the crating takes a bit of work. You might see if a local engine installer/rebuilder has a used crate available. $50-$100 for a used engine crate would be reasonable, depends on how many they have/use. Might get a throw-away free. If you know a business that regularly ships large items by truck, talk to them! Most have contracts with trucking firms and steep discounts due to volume. You'd have to get it to the business for pick-up there.

Obviously I can't just slap a couple 37 cent stamps on it and drop it in the mail so I assume there is going to be some substantial cost involved. Any suggestions on who I would even use would be appreciated. Thanks.
