Re: Gremlin Garage II fencing completed, now for the garage door....

I just got notice that the contractor has delivered materials for my shop. Only thing is I won't get to see it until this spring, and will be pouring a concrete floor then!

Security of the door depends on what kind of door you use. A commercial type roll-up is heavy, but very secure. A light weight aluminum roll-up is about as secure as a typical overhead garage door. A fibrglass overhead door is also an option. You'd need an axe and make lots of noise breaking into any of the light weight doors, easier to climb the fence and throw things over! Or pry a personnel door open with a crow bar, duct tape then break glass, etc. If someone wants in, the garage door is the hardest way. Not only would it make a lot of noise, but it's on the street, isn't it? If it were in the back hidden by the fence it would be more of an issue. Since my shop is right behind my house, and out in the country, I'm thinking about using an insulated vinyl roll-up door. My brother is using them on his chicken houses (the big 300'x60' type!) and they hold up well. I just don't want an overhead door blocking light and space in the shop. The vinyl or light weight aluminum roll!
-ups are preferred. The vinyl doors cost him $1000 for a 10'x10', installed with operator. Not bad, but no more secure than a convertible car top.
