Re: 1971 Turbo Gremlin Axle

" I decided to put new gears in my AMC Model 15 axle but can't find anyone
" that makes them. Lots of gears for the Model 20 axle though so it looks like
" I need to find one. Since AMC has been out of business for over 20 years and
" many AMC cars have been crushed, what are the best models to look for? I
" expect most Gremlins, Hornets, Spirits, and Concords were built with six
" cylinder engines. In fact, in looking through salvage yards I never saw a
" V-8 engine in any of these cars. So, what do I need to look for? I have a
" garage all ready to do the work but they couldn't find any gears either.
" Help!

what ratio are you looking for? have you tried the big national
places like randy's ring and pinion?

all small cars [american, hornet et al, javelin] with fours and sixes
had amc15 rears. classic/rebel sixes up to '67/8 also had amc15s.
ratios range from 2.21 to 4.11, with 2.73 and 3.08 probably most
common.

all v8s and all other large cars [eg. my '67 marlin 6] had amc20s.
jeeps '75-'85 can also be found with amc20 rears.

the dana 35 is the amc15 by another name, and it's still being made.
tallest gears i've seen for it is 3.07 though. most of the interest
[4wd] is on the other end, 4.56 and 4.88. axle shafts and bearings
are different but r&p and even diffs interchange afaik.
