yup.  saw a story about him.  seems he'd start by telling the runners
'you've had trouble escaping the coasties.  you need faster boats.  i
can help you...' then turning around and telling the guard 'you've had
trouble catching the bootleggers.  you need faster boats.  i can help
you...'

he brought his idea of light fast boats to the navy in ww2 and they
became pt boats.  70' long iirc, triple packard v12s.

those 8s could've been packards; they had an air history much like
rolls royce or bmw, up to ww2.  it's not by accident that packard
built the merlins for the aaf in ww2; also not by accident that they
were better at it than rr.
