re: GM going Out of Business

There is a lot of talk about what GM's problems are, but I have not seen anyone discuss pricing. Simply stated, I for
one cannot afford any NEW North American vehicle. Sure maybe I could carry a lease for one, but to own a brand new one -
not a chance, that ended years ago.

I'm not poorly paid, I don't owe a large mortgage, I have two children and a wife that works part-time, yet for me to
even consider buying a new North American Car, I'm looking at 30k minimum. The cars that appeal to me are much more
expensive then that, so I make do and purchase used vehicles that are 3 years old or more and have plenty of life left
in them, but not new, I doubt I will ever be able to afford a new North American Car again.

When I was younger, I went to the AMC dealership and after some haggling drove away with brand new V8 Gremlin X for 4k -
at 21! Ok I know, I know that was some time ago, but I did it on a salary that was perhaps double that. Can the same be
said for a young buyer today, I don't think so, that is the reason young buyers are attracted to imports, reasonably
priced, when all is said and done, that is what draws customers in - pricing.

I mean a Camaro before they fazed them out, came in at 40k, a firebird about the same, a vette forget it, 60k plus, how
many young people today are making 60k a year let alone 100k to compare from yesteryear in order to afford a new vehicle
- I bet not a lot.

Wasn't the Ford Model T's reduced in price every year they were in production? At what point did the car producers
determine, hey reducing prices is not a sound business decision. In my opinion, that date is when the first death knell
of the North American car industry was rung. Look at every other industry who produce consumer goods, all continue to
lower their price's year after year.

You cannot have an industry that year after year attempts to increase prices with little in regard to a major advance,
at some point the consumer stops buying your product, all the rest of the issues pale in comparision to pricing.

Walmart has it right, put pressure on your suppliers to keep costs down and the consumer will beat a path to your door,
pretty simple stuff in my mind.
