And if you are a pessimist, then ask any boater about them, boaters use them due to that issue, I used one one once, it lasted about 6 months, it had a ring that fit under the rad cap, and a wire hung down with the anode immersed in the liquid. Since I didn't keep up with it, I'll never know if it might have saved anything in the cooling system, but it DID corrode away, so it might have helped while using it. Another item is a box boaters use to put a charge on their metal, negative maybe?, so the metal won't rust. I've seen them advertised for cars for $200, it's supposed to stop your car from rusting ( or further ). Puts a small electrical field into your entire car body to prevent the galvanic reaction of water on the car body starting or spreading rust. Again, never heard of any long-term studies done about these items, so can't confirm or deny their effectiveness personally. Just that I've heard they work, and boaters use them, so they may do what is claimed.
