The facts will be forgotten, the connections will be unknown and the big picture will stay Daguerreotype, not High Def. What point is there in posting? At this late date, there's none. > 1. If it goes out to a reader, it IS archived, on disk by Ralph Ausman, who collects all the digests or individual e-mails and puts them on a CD for the list. So don't tink messages not posted on the web sites are not getting saved for posterity. Ralph, you should periodically post where to send and how much for a copy, and maybe I should put that info on the web page too. By the way, I'll want a new CD next time you create one for my personal records. For lister's information, the CD is easily searchable and goes back to the formation of the list around 2000 (???). 2. There are "snafus" in the e-mail system off and on across the internet. Occasionally a mail gets lost. The AMX-Files receives the list just like any other reader. It could be a hick-up in the Internet that causes a mail not to go, or a glitch in the archiving/posting software. I recently extended the allowable length of a message by a few K -- maybe the software has a limit and ignores longer messages? I don't know -- I don't run the AMX-Files site or the AMCGremlin site. Those two sites are an added service to those who prefer to read the list messages on-line and don't it sent to their mail box. 3. BOTTOM LINE: If you want to make sure you get ALL AMC-List messages you need to change your settings to "digest" or "individual messages". The default when you join is "digest" (plain text). With "digest" you only get 2-5 e-mails a day. The messages are collected into sets of 8-12 then sent out. Even an 8-12 message digest is a relatively small e-mail, usually no more than 40K. There's only one e-mail header (which takes up 2-5K) instead of 8-10. So even five digests won't take up much e-mail storage space. Reply to messages by using your e-mail program, set to send plain text. Any message sent to "mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx" will go to the entire list. You can easily cut and paste messages from the digest into your e-mail text. Just remember to change the subject line, please! ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
