Jeep Grand Wagoneer AMC 360 V8 electrical/alternator Question

Hi Everyone,
I have a technical question about the electrical system on my 1989 Jeep Grand
Wagoneer. I want to know if the power feed/output on the alternator is LIVE
all the time (directly connected to battery) or if it only has juice to/from it
when the ignition is on and engine running.

I have built a home-made hydrogen generator (which works!) and have installed
it on my Jeep. I WAS running juice to it from the additional lead at the
ignition coil, but it's drawing too much juice away from the coil, so that the
coil is not fully charging under load. When I hammer the gas peddle down, the
engine stutters. Under normal load it's fine. After unhooking the Hydrogen
unit, the ignition coil functions properly under load.

So, basically, I am looking for a good place under the hood, to hard wire the
Hydrogen unit, so that it is hooked into and Ignition ON wire and OFF when the
Jeep isn't running. I thought that the alternator would be the best place for
this, pending the wire isn't HOT when the ignition is off.

Please email me back at <amundaza@xxxxxxxxx> ... Thanks for any help/pointers
you all provide!

Sincerely,
Greg Taylor :) <><
