A: There are so many issues that can be brought up that this covers.
Spark: Bad vac advance or sticking mechanical. Dist shaft throwing grease 
splotches between the points (always lube the wear bar on the points, not 
the dist lobe!), misaligned points, dropping voltage or weak coil (I just 
put a '77 Mopar coil on my points controlled '73 J400 for a BIG power/easier 
starting difference!) Timing too far retarded. (one other nasty that just 
happened to me on my '90 E350 cube van with 460: sheared dist gear roll pin 
that kept me from selling at today's swap meet I had been planning all year 
to go to!)
Fuel: Wrong/sticking power valve, vacuum leak disrupting fuel flow, wrong 
jets. Clogged fuel pump inlet (I add a filter before my pumps in all my AMCs 
except the in-tank EFI models)
Mechanical: Sloppy timing chain, cam walk (a very bad thought!), too tight 
of valves.
