Many thanks to all who gave me input on what to look for on this '94 Jeep. After hearing the "scary" details of what to look for ( leaf spring rust-out, coil-spring breakage, doors falling off broken-weld hinges, etc ), I was pleasantly surprised to look over this AZ-registered Jeep. It had some undercoating, virtually no rust underneath, except the undercoating was falling off around the front leaf spring pockets, and minor surface rust there. Front coil springs ( or are they Macpherson struts? the guy called them "struts", said they'd been replaced ) were good, no breaks, and the drivers side had a paper tag on it, meaning it'd been replaced at one time, probably. Doubt it'd last 115,000 miles! The tag, anyway. Here's what I found : - A/C cold ( R-12 ? ) - 4.0 engine FI, clean, sounded smooth, metal valve cover - 4x4, automatic ( wheels click a few times after first few rolls in 4-by part-time mode, that normal? no noise after a few feet, silent. ) - tow package, tow bar never used by PO - fairly new tires - new catalytic converter - door hinges ok - window rollup ok on driver's door - Am/Fm/Tape player ok - cruise control works paint cOlor is a gold-tan, interior tan. Guy had done excellent maintenance check-off in his owners manual. Seems like a nice guy, cared about his vehicle. Former PA vehicle, he'd taken it on 3 round-trips to AZ from VA and back. I'm pleased with the vehicle, it seems well-cared for, and other than some minor problems ( missing ash tray ; broken, so discarded , arm rest top screw pulled out on drivers door ), and probably some other minor things, I think it's a nice SUV. He asked BB of $3,200, I offered 3k flat, he took it. Deal should be settled on Tuesday, I left a token $30 deposit on the Jeep. All in all, I think it's a nice truck, well cared for, and should suit my purposes nicely. Gas mileage claimed is 18 normal, 13 or so with AC on. Anybody else gotten better/worse? Not as good as I'd like, but it IS a 4 x 4, auto. I have to finish up a deal purchasing a 3,000 sq. ft building on Monday, on Tuesday I'll do the deal on the Jeep, hopefully get it VA inspected/emissioned. Has no stickers on it currently, AZ doesn't have Emissions or Inspections? funny...Anyway, I'm sold, and so is the Jeep. I should soon have one in my driveway to replace my '72 Bel Air bomber. LOL. Can't wait to have a more "modern" vehicle to drive. With working AC and radio to boot... :) Jerry Casper in Virginia ______________________________________________________ Yahoo! for Good Watch the Hurricane Katrina Shelter From The Storm concert http://advision.webevents.yahoo.com/shelter
