I had a real similiar problem with my 82 Eagle wagon; it used to die at
stops and sometimes going around curves. It was a two fold problem. One was
the distributor cap looked new, it was not, and everything else had been
replaced and in a major brain fart, I forgot to change that. This helped but
was not the reason.
The reason was the crapgas we use in Houston, it clogs the small idle jets
in the carb. You take off the breather lid, and look straight down the carb,
don't be a Aggie and light a match however. Just look down and you will see
a pair of small jets facing like this: V and on each of them has a tiny
pinhole. What I did was take some carb cleaner witht he long red nozzle and
put it on each pinhole and blast away.
This worked great and car never died again until the crapgas clogged it up.
It is usually a yellow residue here in Houston, your color may vary. I also
run Chevron Techron in it which is probably the cleanest stuff for the
Eagles. It is more expensive but worth it to keep from clogging and
stalling.
There is a file on my website also here:

Dealing with 'six cylinder carb fixes' which might help also.
On my 88 Eagle wagon, whihc suffered similiar problems, I changed the carb
out to a Tomco from Holley. Never have liked Holleys, but the Tomco was
rebuilt, bought at O'Reillys or Auto Zone for about $200, and have not had a
problem with it since.
