There are many manufacturers of carpet, and many grades. Most of the really cheap carpets, are just that. Ohio Auto Mat ( carpet company) was bought by Trim Parts. Trim Parts is the GM restoration parts supplier. That means all (a lot of what they have) the parts you go down to your Local GM dealer to buy for your 67 Camaro, or Vette, or other old GM, is manufactured buy Trim Parts, and sold to GM, and then to you ( or you can buy them from me, or Trim parts). So their parts pass GM for quality, and are sold as GENUINE GM PARTS. They offer both molded and cut & sewn carpets ( some can be had either way, some with molded and sewn sections). ACC is another company that sells carpet. Year one, and others use ACC. Legendary uses both companies, as do I ( I'm a Legendary dealer too). There are many factors here, but the main one is, IF you have someone who truly cares about their customer, or one that MAKES EXCUSES. I have sold both Trim and ACC carpets for years, and have had problems from both, as well as other companies or individuals ( parts). The difference again is what they do about the problem. I started with used parts and working on cars ( all, not just AMC), I bought most of the new parts from AMC venders, and when something was not right, I asked why, and always got excuses. "Why is the carpet short on the fire wall"?, Kennedy, " that's the way their made." Funny, I asked the manufacture, and found out what was going on, and fixed that problem. ACCs, fit very well, and I would say they have the best fit, out of the box. That does not mean you can not have a problem. One customer had the rear carpet too short from side to side, I checked it out, called ACC, he had a new back section in a few days, it was correct. Another customer had a fit problem ( 79 Concord S/W with 409 Chevy, HAY, I treated him with respect, and guess what, he is now putting an AMC 360 in), I called, got him another carpet, still would not fit right. I questioned him, and found out he was getting sent an Eagle carpet. Called ACC and told them what I found, and they found that the molds had gotten switched. I just saved ACC and a lot of AMCers money and time, WHY, I took the time to find out what was going on, and worked to FIX it, not make an excuse of "that's the way their made". Trim Parts, fit well, but I have found it takes a little more work to fit them in ( I have had numerous customers tell me it dropped right in, one in a Gremlin that went to AMO Nats ( yes I know Jock), put the carpet in one day, and drove the 3-400 miles to win a trophy). I have had a few problems with them as well. The AMX carpet was wrong, I fixed that for them, I have had carpets that were short side to side, ALL have been taking care of, and all customers have been satisfied. Save for one that had issues with an ACC carpet. It was not made correctly, and instead of calling me, he had his interior guy cut it up and try and fix it, after they could not get it to work, he called me, well IF you cut up or modify a new part , you just bought it. I did get him what he needed and I think I even eat all the added expense, even though he messed it up. ANY part can be defective, what is done about that problem , makes the difference. ACC, has more colors ( they also manufacture their carpet in house), cost more, and don't have all the AMC kits that Trim has. Trim has way more AMC carpets ( ACC does not make Doc's carpet), and costs less. I sell mostly Trim carpets, as I make more off of them, simple truth, BUT if you want an ACC carpet, I will sell you one as well. If that is what you want, and I can get it, that is what you will get. I use and have installed both companies carpets, I have feed back from customers, and I speak from 1st hand knowledge. I can not speak for any other carpets ( well the POS I got with a Machine that came from J.C. WHITNEY many years ago), but have found these to be the best available. IF you what the truth on a part, any part , just ask me, I will tell you, not make excuses or lies ( do you understand that Tom B?). Andre " A.J."
