Jim, I would stay with 91-95 system. 95 I believe is the best year with the 5 speed as the AX15 went to an external slave that year IIRC. 91-95 has the easiest to adapt EFI setup as itis OBD I and doesn't require quite as many sensors to work proper. The 96 up OBD II need some more feedback to their ECU's and they can be used and have been. I'd do some online searching and reading before moving up to a 96 up system. They do have some benefits as code readers and ECU programming is easy to have done on OBD II, But if your doing a stock combo, that won't come into play at all. You may want to consider going my route. Buy the engine and trans then buy the harness and ECU from the 91 system. YOu can find the harnesses new and used from places like junkyards and HESCO. A two wheel drive 1995 Jeep Cherokee 5speed would be the best place to get everything. Sure the blocks where changed in 96, but unless your a nitpicker the 95 block won't give you any trouble. Mine is a 95 warranty pull shortblock, It was pulled because it was "noisy". Believe me it has some slight ticking noises cold, and hot, but nothing to amount to anything. It now has a total of about 8,000 miles onit and it was a FREE shortblock! If you buy a 95 complete you can listen to it run and decide for yourself. Just my thoughts on the matter. Been there done that, Love the results!
