{FORGED?} Gas Gauge Trouble Shooting Help Needed

I have only a few problems left to complete all the mechanical repairs on my Hornet after almost 2 years. Inst. lites, court lites, and gas gauge. These 3 items are next as I am pulling the dash in about 10 days. The gas gauge is my main concern as I don't drive at night but still would like to fix the inst. and court. lites if possible. I have a TSM coming in with a bunch of parts I just bought in maybe 10 days. The gauge has worked on and off in the past but was not accurate when it did work. The tank and sender are new and the sended is properly grounded. If you ground the wire at the sender it does not peg the gauge. I checked the wire at the plug at the harness at the drvers door pillar and have no power on either side of it. The temp gauge works just fine also so I doubt it is the regulator/resister you guys talk about. Any suggestions? Keep in mind I have a multi meter and have yet to use it for anything but the tac & dwell feature. I hate trouble shooting electrical !
problems. Also is the fuel gauge removable from the inst. cluster? I have a cluster out of a Gremlin. Will that work if the gauge shows to be bad? Thanks
