IIRC, ZJ's with automatics got the same 3:55's as XJ's. Not a whole lot of weight difference between the two unless you load them up with leather ETC; for a Matador I'd say 3:08 rear axle with 14" tires would suffice. Taller tires and I'd look for a 3:31 or 3:55 axle. My American with a T-5 is running 3:31 ratio with 255/60R15" tires and it is a sweet runner on the highway and in town. The Matador would probably do better with a little more gear. I'd try for 3:55 and see what it was like. Best bet is to build a stroker!
