Ken's right, but there's more! It will also tell you the year and model. Each model had a unique letter for each engine, and some letters changed over the years. The starting serial number changed when the letter code remained the same also. Starting serial number for 1964 Ambassador (all had 327) was H255001 (HT333001 for Canadian production, HK12001 for knock-down kits). Ken, your notes are 65 Ambassador only, American and Classic had different letter codes. Codes changed for early 66 production also.
