Another newbie (2nd time) Intro

It's nice to see an old name come back! You know, we have a couple guys now with ITA Spirit/Gremlin machines. Since you're an old SCCA hand something like that might interest you. Ed Forrest and son (I think his name is Trey) are running one in Atlanta, and another guy is building one. I've given both a few pointers on the AMC six, but I have only done a little Autocross driving myself. Ed finally worked out the gearing on his 258 car, and stopped trying to just rev the heck out of it. I know low to mid range torque is the AMC six's strong point, so got him to keep rpm under 5K and gear the thing to pull. The five speed helps keep it in the torque band much better, and he was running 3.08 gear. Was looking for 3.31s last I heard from him, which would be about right for the car with the five speed. Won't really use fifth, maybe on the back straight at Road Atlanta, but the lower gears help a lot. He pulls away from most everything out of the turns, even if they do catch back !
up and pass on the straights! Ed's car is competitive now, he even had his first class win (first place!) a couple months ago. I forget who the guy building the Gremlin is, haven't heard from him in a while. If there's a class for running bigger sedans like the American (maybe against Volvo 240s?), that would be a great class to run in! Or take an American to the strip.

You might even be interested in fixing one of those Americans more as a driver and going a different way -- with a six. You'll hear a lot about that from Mark Price and myself.

There have been a few changes on the list, all for the good. There is some moderation, but I try to keep it light and interject only when necessary. I now own the list, but try not to "run" it. It's pretty much the same as before -- it "runs itself". But things won't be allowed to get out of hand again! There are three others who have moderation rights as well. They pretty much stay anonymous and let me handle things. I'll drop a name only if I have to be away for an extended time. No point in making anyone else targets for any disgruntled listers unless necessary. As I said, I keep hands off as much as possible, so everything should be fine. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, and again, welcome back!!
