Re: The shelf life of gas/oil

Six months shouldn't cause any problems, and I've run cars that have sat a year with no problems -- but that's probably pushing it. If you know the vehicle is going to sit invest in some fuel stabilizer. You can get it at any parts store. I've used Bill Hirsch (http://www.hirschauto.com/newpages/chemicalproducts.htm) products. This is from the Hirsch website:

"Fuel Preservative & Stabilizer
Prevents gum, varnish formation and corrosion in fuel tanks and fuel systems.
Absolutely a must for cars, boats, planes or any other equipment whre the
fuel sits idle in a tank for 30 days or more. One ounce of this product will keep
3 gallons of fuel fresh for at least 3 years. Contains no alcohol that attcks some
metals. Will not attack rubber parts of diaphrams as most other do. Unlimited
shelf life. Safe for all 2 or 4 cycle engines. One quart will protect 100 gallons of
fuel for over 3 years."

Just pour in then run the vehicle for a few minutes, preferably take it for a 10-15 minute drive. That mixes the preservative with the fuel better AND gets the preservative in the fuel lines and carb/injectors. When you pull a vehicle that's sat a long time out run a container of good fuel system cleaner through it, something like the $7-$10 Castrol Syntec (there's a cheaper cleaner under the Syntec name, it's not as good and only recommended for regular running).
