401 rods

Well just got back from the machine shop, had to recheck the specs on the
new 360 "I" beam steel rods, since we have the problem with the 401 rods.
The 360s are OK! Anyway, BSed with my marshiest about the bushing of the
small end. He states " we have used steel liners" ( with a very grimacing
face) " but they are really a problem if you ( or when you) have to take
them apart." Thats because the liner will move when pressed, and then
lock against the piston, so you can damage a piston or the rod. Yes on a
rebuild with new pistons, who cares, but that is not always the reason to
remove a piston from a rod. He finished with " I'll NEVER do that again!
