No, the crank is not ruined.   If it has no damage from running or nicks 
from say falling over in storage, then it can be repolished.   The journals 
need to be carefully measured for size, then partially polished by hand and 
measured again.   This polishing CAN be done in a machine shop, however many 
machine shops will not merely polish a shaft.   They often want to machine 
the crank undersize whether it needs it or not.   If you want to learn how 
to polish the journals yourself,  email me off list.   I personally polished 
the crank journals in my S/Pro race car and it goes 7,000 r.p.m..

I have 73 360 that has been sitting around disassmebled. The crankshaft has 
grown some rust. I remember something in a metallurgy class about 
intergranular corrosion in ferrous metals. Is my crankshaft ruined?
