Re: Crankshaft question

No, the crank is not ruined. If it has no damage from running or nicks from say falling over in storage, then it can be repolished. The journals need to be carefully measured for size, then partially polished by hand and measured again. This polishing CAN be done in a machine shop, however many machine shops will not merely polish a shaft. They often want to machine the crank undersize whether it needs it or not. If you want to learn how to polish the journals yourself, email me off list. I personally polished the crank journals in my S/Pro race car and it goes 7,000 r.p.m..

Subject: Crankshaft question

I have 73 360 that has been sitting around disassmebled. The crankshaft has grown some rust. I remember something in a metallurgy class about intergranular corrosion in ferrous metals. Is my crankshaft ruined?
