Now if I can just get rid of that annoying clunk
from the calipers. Is the best solution to track down some new
support
springs or should I put a piece of rubber from an inner tube in there
to stop it. The brakes are 1000% better than the old discs that's for
sure, now if the clunk would be gone I'd be so happy.

NO, I wouldn't put any inner tube rubber or any rubber
in there > once you hit the brakes a few times, it will
melt and perhaps catch fire.
If you've an idea for a retaining spring of sorts, use
Spring Steel for the object > won't lose it's abilities
with repeated use & heat.
