<snip> all manual bells are not the same. in later years there was a
multi-pattern bell that took [almost] all the transmissions, but
there are also single-pattern ones.
how can i tell this wonderfull T5 friendly bell form the others whilst
crawling under numerous veh at the wreckers? a handy part number visible
from above, beside or below?
<snip>T-5 is a pretty easy swap. I used clutch fork and throw out and bell
from
the 79 AMX SR-4.
The shifter came right into the same hole in the floor as the auto shifter
did in the 70 Javelin...
Problem is - here on Vancouver Island AMC's are rare enough even as an auto
- finding one *for parts* with an intact tranny, bell, clutch fork etc is
even worse. i wonder what jeeps i might be able to salvage from? i know some
cherokees came with a 5speed. i dont think it was the t5 - an ax5? does that
use the same bell?
<snip>i repeat, a later bell cannot be used with your '71 engine. the block
bolt pattern is completely different. and remember, there are several later
bells; not all are multi-pattern or have the sr4/t4/t5 pattern
no, this bell is to be for my 77 engine (and eventualy for a 4.0). i was
hoping to use the 71 bell as i ASSUMEd that it would be the same patern as
the later ones, and since i had it already....
i'm sure the later bells that fit the sr4/t4/t5 will fit my 232? my intent
is to swap in a t5 before i get onto the whole stroker thing, as this is my
daily driver. and i'm sure we all know what a drain on the pocket book it
can be everytime one walks into a parts store or the junkers... though it
will most likely wait and be both done at the same time - just such a time
saver
