If you have some stubborn stuff on the coil case, you can use a strong base as opposed to acid cleaner such as oven cleaner. Do it outside with the piece up at least to ambient temperature and you should first put wax in the tower rather than get caustic soda inside the high terminal. ( or be careful ) Rinse thoroughly with DI. or clean water and immediately dry at a few degrees higher than ambient and apply the primer which should be a rust converting or inhibiting coater, then do not touch with your hands ! Coat with any good primer or top coat and it should be there.

I've started the engine removal on my wagon and when I pulled the coil out, it was the original Delco logo coil. The only bad thing about this coil is that it's filthy and there is some rust on the body. Anyone have any tips for cleaning the coil up and repainting?

P.S. I think my wagon either hates me or it's trying to out PITA my older brother's Wrangler. One of the distributor cap screw heads rounded off (it was the one by the engine) so I had to use a hammer and Vice-Grips to get it off. Grrrr!
