A: Rather than a 518 and adapters, an AW4 from a 2wd Cherokee with 4.0L is a 
bolt up, or the 42RE from a 2wd Grand Cherokee with 4.0L. I have been 
checking it out and it appears that the A500 valvebody swap will work with 
minor mods. (I haven't had the trans to do a test fit yet, but the holes 
appear to match up)

I don't even pretend to be a auto trans expert, but it sure seems to me that 
the GM 700R4 would be easier.  Much more plentiful both used and modified.

I still like the GearVendors OD unit, too bad it's $2500 bucks or so...
