First, I overlooked obvious stamped numbers, on the flat boss on the block side near the deck between cyls 2 and 3:
block 3190808 - 232 CI YEAR 1964-1970 3.8 LITRE, BORE 3.7500 STROKE 3.5000
Of course, it makes no sense to me that there would be a re-use of a number like this: my suspicion is that the source I had for the first number (which listed 3190808 as a V-8) was in error.
I have a listing of block casting numbers which someone posted to this list in the past, which shows 319 0808 as being both a 232 and a 390, which smells wrong. The kicker though is that this list shows 319 0806 as a 390! I rather suspect a typo or a miss-read is the source of the confusion...
Since most sources often just quote other sources, an error early on will get propagated for ever and seem authoritative.
This block IS sleeved -- it is quite obvious from the bottom of the bores. There is a step at the bottom of the bore to retain the sleeve. I didn't measure the original bore diameter left in the .2" or so of the original remaining bore.
