Marty, First soak your U-bolts, brake lines, parking brake cable bolts, shock bolts and leaf spring bolts with Blaster or some other type of quality penetrating oil. I would do this the night before and then a little more when you are about to start. This will save you a lot of headaches. Next, put the car on jack stands (give yourself plenty of room, you will be under there a little while). Disconnect your drive shaft, brake lines, parking brake, bottom of shock and U-bolts from the rear end. Place your jack under the pumpkin and lift enough to take the weight of the rear end off of the leaf spring. If you have another set of jack stands, it would be a good idea to use them to support the rear end. Remove the bolt from the rear shackle holding the leaf spring on each side. Once that is done, you should be able to slide the axle out the rear of the car. To install the new posi, reverse these steps. There is a centering peg in the leaf spring that goes up into the mounting plate on the axle to align the rear end in the car. If I was you, I would take this opportunity while your new posi is outside the car, to open the cover, inspect the gears and replace the gear lube with fresh stuff. Don't forget that a posi with need a can of posi lube added to the gear lube. Hope this helps, Nick Message-ID: <20050716210557.92120.qmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2005 14:05:57 -0700 (PDT) From: Marty Bricker <mbrickerusn@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Replacing entire rear end. Tranny lines identified To: northtexasamc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, AMC List <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> I purchased an entire 3.54 posi rear end for my 74 Javelin AMX (it's also from a 71-74 Jav). I can't seem to find any procedures in the TSM for replacing an entire rear end. Anything special I need to complete the swap? Any suggestions to ensure I don't mess anything up or make it a bit easier? THanks. I remember a recent thread discussing the tranny coolant lines. I purchased a B&M Supercooler for my tranny. The instructions state that for all Chrysler trannys the front port is the outlet and the rear is the return line. Marty
