tranny removal update

Thanks to Joe, Frank, and Tom for the HUGELY helpful
information on how to disconnect the torque tube to
get the transmission out of my '62 Classic. The
step-by-step list of instructions, which I printed out
and took to my car last night, helped me disconnect
everything really quickly. I did get that brake hose
off without having to cut it. . . I think this is
because it has been so well lubricated by the spray of
transmission oil that has coated the entire underside
of that car! Anyway, tonight when I go home I will be
ready to roll the rear wheels back, then a friend is
coming by to help me drop the transmission.

Joe wrote that there is "an aftermarket rubber
trunnion bushing now available for the rear of the
transmission, according to an ad I saw in the AMCRC
classifieds." I want to order a new one of these if
possible, and just did a quick search of some of the
AMC vendors' on-line sites, but didn't come up anyone
selling this. I do not belong to AMCRC, so I wonder
if anyone with the AMCRC classifieds can see whom I
need to contact.

Thanks, everyone!

Just a couple of comments to add to what Tom J. said.

In the 62 Classic with the 196 engine you can reach
the bellhousing

Bolts from above using an offset wrench. It's a bit
of a reach for me (6 feet with short arms) so you may
have to stand on something to do it.

An aftermarket rubber trunnion bushing is now
available for the rear of

The transmission, according to an ad I saw in the

AMCRC classifieds recently.
