Someone desperate for the rivets to complete a 1000 point resto will probably pay that much. In your case Doc, I'd just use plain old rivets. You have the title and other documentation to prove that's the VIN for your car. A simple "I changed the dash" explanation would suffice for any questions, plus the proof of ownership. Most people won't even notice the rivets aren't the "rosette" type, even insurance and police officers. 

We've already discussed the technicalities and realities of the VIN change/rebody situation, no point in going over it all again.
