At the top of the front carpet, there are several (4?) plastic button/push pins holding it up. Is there a secret to releasing these? There seems to be a hole in the middle that you could maybe stick something like a pin or the eraser end of a pencil in. It doesn't seem to screw, and I'm afraid of tearing it up. What's the trick to getting these out and reusing them?
I think they're meant for one-time use: destructive removal. That said, if you can get access to the firewall-side of them, you could stick a short piece of stiff tubing over them to push the ears back in.
I have the gas pedal that pivots from the floor; Can't seem to find the screws that attach it. Haven't been underneath, nor have I peeled the rubber of the pedal up from the bottom to a point of no return, but I don't see anything obvious.
If it's the same as my Rambler (eg. old-fashioned pedal that hinges on the floor, and the top pushes on a lever attached to the firewall) then it doesn't use screws; there's a "C" shaped spring clip that fits across the back, it looks like this:
# /----------------------------------------- \ # / \ # / \ # | | # | | # +--- ---+
(Sorry, the # is because my damned local laptop mail agent thinks that the vertical-bar character means I want to run a program!)
There's two rusty (by now! :-) ears that overlap, and this kludgey clip holds 'em together.
You can comfortably drive in bare feet with this type of pedal, the Hornet type (the spoon type that dangles) is harder. The good old days were occasionally, actually, better.
