The main point is that no one is going to check as long as the VIN on the car and title are the same. Most people, even the DMV, don't know or care where the hidden VINs are. The only people who would even consider checking are the insurance guys, and even then only if it's a big deal as far as value of the vehicle, there is some reason to believe the car is stolen, or the VIN doesn't come anywhere near matching the vehicle. A V-8 in a six cylinder car, especially an older car, probably won't raise any eyebrows. The insurance company is just going to pay for what's on the VIN anyway. Put a two seater AMX VIN on a Gremlin and you'll probably pique some interests, maybe even enough for an investigation! Maybe it's like speeding -- it's wrong, but regularly done -- sometimes in blatant disregard of the law. But until someone gets hurt no one cares. Since the VIN change isn't likely to hurt anyone, no one will care. It just saves an old Gremlin. On July 1, 2005 Jock J Jocewicz wrote: > But did you tell the DMV what you did?
