type f was only for fords, including the fmx, but nearly everyone else
uses dexron/mercon - including ford now.  iirc gm, mopar, and warner
always used dexron/mercon.

One thing I want to point out is that *newer* Mopar's use a specific tranny fluid. My understanding is that it's a very bad thing to put the wrong stuff in it. I'm not sure when exactly this took effect but it's been at least for the past ten years.
