Transmission Cooler Mounting FAQS

My cooler story.
I have an old 92 Bonneville daily driver. 210k on Mobil 1 (bought at 72k)
valve job done at 110k. OE bottom end. This thing has ALWAYS had bad
converter shake at highway speed when hot and all locked up. About 25k ago
the plastic radiator decided it was time to go. The replacement I received
had the wrong size trans cooler line fittings. Rather than go through the
hassle of returning it (mail order) I decided to install a trans cooler that
I had bought for another car but never used. It is a rather large one, about
12x16. The tube makes 6 passes back and forth through the fins. So I thought
it would be big enough to cool the trans by it self.
The first time on the interstate after installing the cooler I was shocked
as the shaking was all but gone!! Apparently the shaking has something to do
with heat and the new trans cooler had changed the temp of the trans. To
this day the shaking is MUCH better than with the OE radiator cooler.
It sets right in front of the A/C condenser so it gets a full blast of air.
After driving around town that thing gets so hot you can barely touch it!!
The auto trans gives off more heat than you think. Anyway that's my story
and I'm stiiicckken to it.
