Frank, I bought one of the aluminum caster camber gauges that fit against the wheel. I have my Americans alignment "roughed in" at 3* Caster 1/2* neg Camber and 1/8" toe. It seems to handle well and doesn't seem to have any problems with these settings. I've not driven it much and I know The steering box is off center about 1/3 turn which makes it twitchy when turning in one direction. I need to get my front spring issues straightened out before I do a final alignment. I've tried twice to get an online quote from Coil Spring specialties and not recieved a reply. I need to figure out exactly what rate springs and height to ask for. I've been swamped here at work for two weeks and we are going on Vacation to San Diego on Saturday. Not much time right now for the American. I did just put later two piece bushings in mine for a while. All AMCs used an adjustable strut rod from 1967 or 68 on, earlier were non-adjustable. The later big car rods won't fit the 62-66 big cars though, and little cars are a different design also. I started to use a large threaded rod coupler I bought from an industrial fastener store. The plan was to cut the strut rod in half, cut 1/4" out, then thread the cut ends and screw them into the coupler..
